Building a strong, confident horse person

“We have a responsibility to apply our knowledge of natural horsemanship, not only for ourselves, not only for our horses, but for everyone around us. If we can just lead with calm and focus, and maintain a positive mental attitude, we will be doing the right thing for not only ourselves and our horses, but for the world.” Pat Parelli

If you’re ready to start or continue your journey of learning about horses, Pegasus & Co can teach you everything from the basics of horse ownership and care, to safety, understanding their behaviour, relationship building and stable management.

Owning a horse can be a beautiful and rewarding experience, however it also comes with challenges – care, cost, equipment, education, time, etc. We want to make sure you’re ready for the commitment before you take the leap.

Our courses will help you decide whether buying a horse is the right thing for you or your child.

In the course, you will learn:

  • Approaching the horse safely

  • How to read the herd

  • Identifying tack and correct equipment for training

  • Grooming and horse care

  • Dietary requirements and feed schedules

  • Exercise routines

  • Assessing the horse prior to a session

  • Identifying signs of ill health or injury

  • Teaching a horse to become a good citizen

  • Learning when to reward and what to reward with

  • Understanding the importance of groundwork and proper preparation

  • Applying groundwork principles to achieve confident handling

  • When, why and how to rug a horse

  • Applying the principles of horsemanship and its foundations

  • Debunking the myth that horse ownership is glamorous

Whilst Martini and Rome are the stars of the show, Liz has access to a range of horses that are suitable for people of all skill levels to learn from.

This experience will also give you the knowledge and confidence to apply for roles as a groom, working in a riding or racing stable, working for equine vets or the farming industry.
